The man from the Eastern Strands,
walks round with ironclad hands.
Letting hope slip through gold sand,
while time grabs hold our plans.
-A soldier of the 7th
I think it is important to state, before I mention anything else, that power will always draw to itself power. All of creation seems to cry out this one simple truth. Where powers rise up, weather they be good or evil, other powers will rise up to meet them. It seems an easy concept to understand, yet so many fail to recognize its thumb print in their own lives. I think this is important to state because as I tell you this story it is important to remember that power always draws to itself power.
Now that we understand the basis of all law in our world, that not even the Fabric of power may escape, I may start my story. Every good story has several elements to it. A good story needs characters, setting, plot, conflict, climax ans resolution. You may trust and know that our story will have all of these things. But first let me set in place our characters.
One that is not to be overlooked is a being that has taken the name Shadowthrone for himself. He is an ascended that has taken a seat in the warren of shadows which he has mockingly renamed The Umbra Resedinta or The Shadow of the Abode. This man is rich in power and impoverished in terms of wisdom. His role in all of this is that of our antagonist (at least for this scene). Next is a mysterious character that is older then the gods themselves. He is of an ancient race that is eternal in nature and has long been forgotten by the mortal races. His people are known best in long lost stories that are carefully cherished and preserved by few. He is a prince of an eternal king that has long lost his taste for the insignificance that the world offers after several centuries of existence. This prince goes by the name Andromidar Rake and his intentions are at best unpredictable. He now walks amongst the power and people of Quake looking for what has long been forgotten by his people....meaning.
Another character is entirely mortal in nature although his charisma is nothing short of godly. His name is King and High fist Dukar, Ruler of Pale and unofficial ruler of more then half of Quake. He is a man with a thirst for power and that power has been given to him during the seemingly endless war of the races. Now as the war is coming to a close he seeks to unify all nations under one flag. He has all but publicly announced his new self appointed title as Emperor Dukar. The questions involving him are all but answered. The priceless question now is how all the other unaligned nations will react.
Our last character is more a group of characters then a single will. They are an elite group of King Dukar's soldiers known as bridgeburners. They will serve as our heroes for this story. They do not yet know that they will play a hand in most all that is eternal but they shall know soon enough. Bridgeburners have never been known for ignorance, in fact quite the contrary, but these soldiers have a fate about them that they are pleasantly unaware of. In fact they have no clue that their paths will soon intersect with all the power of the characters previously mentioned. The mortals curse of being ignorant of things yet to come is a blessing they are never thankful enough for. For now all they know is that there time of rest and relaxation is but half over before they are rudely interrupted by a messenger while drinking their nearly nonexistent salary away at The Bloody Bitch, just inside Pale's Southern gate.
So there you have our starating characters and the basis of our setting. The plot, conflict, climax, and resolution are soon to come.
